27-30th November 2010 The Great Murray River Basketball Jamboree caters for 200 boys and girls aged 12 years. Players are selected by their State to attend the event from selection processes within each State. Representatives from NSW, VIC, SA, ACT & New Zealand participate.
GREAT MURRAY RIVER BASKETBALL JAMBOREE
The concept of Basketball Jamborees was first developed in Europe many years ago and brings together under 12 boys and girls from many different countries for a week long camp during which they not only play basketball but are involved in a total range of social activities.
During the past ten years both Basketball New South Wales and Basketball Victoria have conducted highly successful Jamborees based on the European model but modified to meet local conditions.
7 years ago the concept of a National Basketball Jamboree was developed and introduced here in Albury.
To claim that it was a success would be an understatement and it set the pattern for what we firmly believe will become an outstanding event on the Australian Basketball calendar.
This year we welcome youngsters and their parents from the Australian Capital Territory, New Zealand, New South Wales, Victoria and South Australia.
It is not unreasonable to hold a vision that this Jamboree will shortly compare with the European Jamborees and that youngsters from here in the South Pacific will attend European Jamborees and youngsters from Europe will attend the Great Murray River Jamboree.
For the moment however we wish all boys and girls, coaches, managers, referees, administrators and parents a marvelous time here in Albury.
We are more than confident that you will enjoy yourselves, make lasting friendships and all return home “winners”.
